Bow 80 Recon: Special K

Couldn't put it off any longer. With the Bow 80 coming up next weekend Suz and I had to finally go check out the storied Special K trail on Moose Mountain.

We have been hearing about how shitty this trail is all summer long. A lot of people avoid it at all costs. Of course I've also heard one person say it's fun. I'll say that a lot of it was fun! The bottom two thirds is rolling fun through the pine trees with berms here and there and some fun rock gardens.

However, the fun doesn't start for a while. The section everyone loves to hate is the top third. Which we largely walked. (We spotted a little trail gnome that we surely would have missed had we been riding. Ha ha.) Still, even with the walking, our time wasn't bad and since this trail is after the last cutoff for the race, we won't feel bad about having to hike the bikes. That is if we get that far on schedule to beat the cutoff times.

The forecast looks great for the coming week and weekend. The trails should be dry and we should be dry and warm on race day. Nothing left to do but spend the week wondering how we'll fair next Sunday!

In the saddle!
These trees have met some handlebars.
Trail gnome.

Ride the skinny anyone?

Downhillers seen doing it right.
